I Am Sunshine
somedays i wake dark
nestled in the remnants of yesterday’s hanger ons
plaited around my body’s familiar posture paused
the tracks of unfinished thoughts and aggravated sores
waiting still to be packed sorted placed
it’ll take a minute or a thousand
to let the sun in
a morning’s glory recoiled to shadow
refusing the sunrise’s meddling gilt
an exasperated appeal for just five more fucking minutes
...please
somedays the dark is all i want
to remain unseen untouched
left alone to sleep and let all this good doing die
to find my own way out these darkened chambers
at my own ready
it seems unfair
to have been named sunshine so long ago
to be sought out perpetually and endlessly by the light
fated to have even my darkest features
forever tainted gold
